PUBG duos project is failing due to non-attendance

If you check my stats, you see that my last game was 3 days ago (the 15/50 one). Not because I was slacking, but because I couldn’t find duo partners despite asking multiple times a day from the people who were online. Sure, some of them were maybe really away, leaving their computers running while at work, but most were playing other games or even PUBG.

While it’s possible that I can drag this on this season, it’s clear that this isn’t going to be anything big. Now what? There are four options:

  1. Dragging it on, hoping that something out of my control changes (wishing and hoping strategy). The game can be patched to make high ranking valuable. For example if a soulbound version of the $150 skirt would be given out for free to everyone in the top 1% at the end of the season, many people would want it.
  2. Switching to solo. This would eliminate my problem about partners, but has very little chance to be any relevant. After all, I was top 100 already solo and nobody cared. Duos and squads are more interesting because that’s the format played by the “big boys”
  3. Switching to another battle royale game
  4. Switching to a non-battle royale game

#2 is just stupid. #1 doesn’t need playing at all. I can return PUBG after the game is changed. #4 is something I’ve desperately tried since I had to leave EVE. None of the games – besides PUBG – was really interesting to me. I will write some new games on the horizon, but all of them look long shots.

This leaves me with “other battle royale” games. The most successful if Fortnite. But it doesn’t even has ranking system and it’s free, which always give me a cringe. Nothing is free, if you aren’t paying, you are being sold. There is H1Z1 which was where the PUBG lead dev came from (and would have stayed if the game would have potential). I’ve heard that Rainbow Six *may* have a BR mode, but I have to research.

I realize that this post isn’t really valuable. It’s mostly here asking for feedback. If you played other BR games (or know of a good non-BR game), please let me know.

  1. EverQuest is opening a new server next Friday on their 19th anniversary. They will start at classic and release a new expansion every 3 months until it catches up with live (which currently has 24 expansions plus a new one every year). You could try to be the most wealthy.. but the functional auction house does not arrive until about 9 months in with the third expansion: Luclin. You could also join the Agnarr server which released Luclin/auction house about 5 weeks ago.

  2. Why don’t you just double box it? After all, what are the chances that both of your accounts will be found at the same time? It’s not like you’re not looking at other stuff while “playing” the game anyway. Just do it on both screens.

Only one of the players need to survive anyway, and you can use one of them as a sacrifice move to save the other.

  3. @Provi Miner: Falcon is still there, as an obvious evidence of corruption. The outcome of that game is determined by your connection to devs, not your gameplay.

@Prolog: and what exactly the point of being rich? Story-raiding MMOs are interactive stories. Everyone completes them, your actions are not relevant to other players or the World. Sure you can get the most rich or have the most pets, but it’s all vanity, even within the game World.

@Smokeman: while 60-70% of the game time is idling, both accounts are active at the same times: in the first 5 minutes and the last. You are idling in mid-game.

  4. Rainbow Six Siege doesn’t have a BR mode. The game is good, but it’s essentially a gimmicky Counter-Strike and lacks any potential for interesting playing-to-win exploitations. There is no way around having good shooting skills and extensive game knowledge.

Then why did you play “the rich” in WOW? Same thing you said here about EQ applies to WOW. esspecially “no impact on the game world”.

If duos are hard to get going in the most played game at the moment I wonder how WOW classic raiding will fail. Getting raids with 40 capable people together will be imposible in todays age.
